Treatment options for Scratches in Horses


Foot, knee, and the toe of white horses are more vulnerable to the skin disorders in horses. The infection attacks the white areas of legs of horse. Darker side of horses is not prone to infection, it occurs occasionally. The area of skin develops swelling and the ooziness is the main symptom of the skin disorder. The swelling further causes inflammation and the crack appearance at the skin of horses. Face and muzzle also develop the scratches and the scratches develop. Fungi attacks and cause diseases in horses. Parasitic and microbial attacks are also very frequent causes of scratches in horses. Allergens like pollen and grass also significantly initiate the infection at the skin.

When the food and diet of a horse is not adequate, the horse develop further symptoms of scratches. All season favors the growth of scratch in horses. To start the infection, microbial attack has significant importance. The occurrence and disappearance of scratch is a very common and obvious symptom of disease. The scratches are non-contagious. Therefore, it is necessary to treat the scratches at proper time. Lot of options for preventing the disease is available. These are costly and the failure in implementation of these treatment options is main cause of improper treatment in horses. Few methods are highly hazardous and difficult and the horses do not allow the treatment to continue.

The serious scratches in horses are not easy to cure, therefore, more attention and care is needed. The scratches also catch the chance of secondary infection by the attack of microbial growth. The treatment can complete its action when the scratch does not catch any infection.
